After hosting 3 sweater knitting focused retreats this spring we decided to mix it up a bit for fall and bring in dyeing and quilting elements!

Natural Dyeing

In October we will be playing around with dying fabric (and yarn!) and incorporate our dyed fabric into our quilt blocks! We will provide guests an opportunity to forage around the property and bring items from home to create dye baths. We will then experiment with fabrics to see what items make which colors!

We are so excited to have textile artist Sarah Hanson join us for both September and October retreats. Sarah has studied natural dyes in the textile department at Lillstreet with Chicago artist Amy Taylor and has completed courses with the Vancouver based natural dye experts at Maiwa. She is currently developing her own consistent practice in natural dyeing.

Quilting

While all of our retreats will have plenty of knitting, in our October and December retreats we will also be incorporating our love of quilting!

This will be a very fun, very chill, low key way to learn about basic quilt block construction. We will be using sewing machines to piece together blocks, but will also have sessions about quilt planning, making hexies, and hand quilting.

We are so excited to be joined by textile artist and quilt pattern designer Tommy Schaefer, who will not only be designing our exclusive quilt blocks for our quilting weekends, but will also be on hand to walk us through creating them!

Accommodations range from a twin bed in a triple room to a king bed in a single room, and cost between $1200 - $2000.

RETREAT PRICE INCLUDES:

Quilting Retreats Only: Three experienced quilting teachers to help get you started in the world of quilting!
Dyeing Retreats Only:
- An experienced textile artist and teacher to introduce you to the world of natural dyeing!
- A natural dyeing kit and apron
Two experienced knitting teachers on hand to answer all of your knitting questions all weekend long
Three nights luxury accommodation, including spacious indoor and outdoor spaces, hot tubs, theater, heated outdoor pool (Sept & Oct only), and fire pit!
Two full days of crafting classes
Catered dinners Friday and Sunday night

Family style breakfasts on Saturday, Sunday, and Monday

Weekend Schedule!

Our final schedule for each weekend is determined by you! We send a survey to all guests and curate our weekends based on the results of those surveys, but our general outline is:

FRIDAY

3pm: Guests can start arriving and settling in
3-7pm: Happy hour drinks and snacks
7pm: Dinner
8-10pm: Knit night!

SATURDAY

7-10am: A la cart breakfast
9-12pm: Classes
11-1pm: A la cart lunch
12-5pm: Classes
5-7pm: Happy hour drinks and snacks
7pm: Pizza party from South Shore Ovenworks
8-10pm: Knit night!

SUNDAY

7-10am: A la cart breakfast
9-12pm: Classes
11-1pm: A la cart lunch
12-5pm: Classes
5-6pm: Happy hour drinks and snacks
6pm: Dinner
8-10pm: Knit night!

MONDAY

7-9am: A la cart breakfast
10am: Check out and head back to Chicago!

Nothing on this schedule is mandatory - if you want to hang out in one of the hot tubs all weekend that is totally ok with us! You make your weekend everything you want it to be - we are just here to help!
